#4 The Language of Fashion

I chose to read the article by Cathy Horyn called “Prada’s New Flower Power”. Throughout this article I realized she had a lot to write about from all the new deigns, details, colors and fabrics. She describes the Prada fashion show in the article that they mainly focused on the flower power, clean tailoring, and the detailed fabric.

"In its crush of pink and red satin, in its papery flower appliqués, the spring Prada show on Thursday night seemed literally a Valentine to women. But it was also a dazzling example of how to breathe modernity into cultural references — in this case, traditional Japanese style and architecture. European designers have had a long affair with the kimono, the obi and platform sandal, and the chrysanthemum pinks. There was a Dior couture show, maybe eight years ago, when John Galliano created an operatic Japanese story. But Miuccia Prada’s collection is a rare instance when you know you are looking at new fashion."

I love New York City because when walking on the streets of New York City you get to see what everyones style. When walking through New York City i see many fashion inspirations. Even walking down 27th street and 7th ave i see many fashion inspiration from FIT students. I have been seeing many ankle booties and layering. I love the red ankle booties in the picture because they make a statement and your feet standout in a crowd. I love the ankle booties, this past week i bought myself two pair of them, I think they are very trendy for this fall. I also love how the girl in the picture is layering her dress with a warm comfy sweaters, since
the weather has been getting alot cooler. Layering your outfits is a great way to look chic and will also be very trendy this fall.

#2. Fashion Trend of Fall 2013 : METALLIC

I started to realize and also LOVE that metallic is going to be very popular for Fall 2013 because it adds  a certain glitter, glam and edginess to your outfit. You can find a lot of metallic shown on nail polish, accessories, shoes, and outfits. I feel that the metallic gives it a different and edgy look to anyones outfit. I saw that many designers have used metallic items for their Fall 2013 line. The metallic look has influenced fashion for the past 50 years. In the 1960s heavy metal became very popular and everyone knows that music has a HUGE influence on FASHION. People were accessorizing with with metal spiked bracelets, chains and studded leather jackets and sooner or later metal became very popular in fashion. The era of Disco music also made metallic very popular to fashion. It consisted of shimmering metallic outfits that reflected the lights and dance floor. We have now also seen metallic have a huge influenced on many performers such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Michael Jackson and many more. Whether its from blinged out accessories to glittery outfits, metallic has a strong influence in the fashion world from the 1960's to the present day.
